Montgomery, AL – MedConnect, Inc. and Baptist Health are pleased to announce the integration of MedConnect’s Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) software solution with Patient Bridge. The collaboration will further the Healthcare Information Exchange system of Baptist Health and Alabama’s healthcare community.
The integration is the first of its kind in Central Alabama. Independent physicians using MedConnect’s EHR v2.3, Baptist Health doctors and patients, and other providers and health systems using Patient Bridge will be able to safely and efficiently send, request, and view healthcare data from one another.
“MedConnect is very excited to offer this integration to our providers. We have a large number of providers in the community that utilize our EHR solution and are part of the Baptist Health system. The ability for providers to exchange patient information is crucial to giving the most effective and efficient patient care in the future.” said Jimmy Chapman, President/CEO of MedConnect.
Dr. Donovan Kendrick played a key role in this new integration. Dr. Kendrick is currently the Chief Medical Officer for Baptist Health. His office has used the MedConnect EHR solution since 2006. “Patient Bridge significantly improves physicians’ ability to provide better care for our patients. Having access to a patient’s latest labs, diagnostic studies, medications, diagnoses and latest treatment significantly improves patient care by integrating their care among all their physicians. It also allows their primary physician immediate access to care provided by specialists so that their care can be better coordinated to ensure the best possible outcome.” said Dr. Kendrick.
The health care industry has identified the need to make healthcare records more accessible between different providers. The Health Information Exchange (HIE) systems are being created to gather health records that can be securely transferred.
“The goal of HIE is to facilitate access to, and retrieval of, clinical data to provide safe, timely, efficient, effective, equitable and patient-centered care,” according to the Healthcare information and Management Systems Society’s (HIMSS) website. By integrating healthcare information, providers will be able to save time and money by avoiding re-admissions and duplicates, avoid fax machines and paperwork, improve diagnoses accuracy, avoid dangerous medication errors, and improve the overall public health. Integrating will allow professionals to examine the data to make better decisions on an individual patient level, as well as, decisions for the general population.
“As the industry moves towards more centralized patient health records in support of Patient Management, sharing information between health systems must be a priority.” said Jimmy Chapman, President/CEO of MedConnect.
