MedConnect Recognized As Early Adopter For Medication Adherence

ARLINGTON, Va. –  Surescripts is expanding its medication management services to help providers address problems with a patient’s adherence to their medication regimen—a dangerous and costly issue for both patients and the healthcare system as a whole. Surescripts’ Medication Management for Adherence solution delivers real-time messages and alerts directly into the provider’s electronic health records (EHR) software during the patient visit. Now, more than 6,300 care providers using software from Agastha, Aprima Medical Software, MedConnect, and PrognoCIS will have near real-time data and insights about how a patient is doing on his or her medication regimen, enabling more meaningful provider-patient interactions.

“Medication non-adherence takes a huge toll on the patient’s wellbeing, as well as the cost of care. But physicians can only address the issue if they are armed with the correct information when it matters most–during the patient’s visit,” said Tom Skelton, Chief Executive Officer of Surescripts. “Our network’s unrivaled connectivity revolutionizes the use of valuable insights from payers, combined with innovative EHR technologies that enhance patient outcomes, giving physicians a digital snapshot of whether or not their patients are adhering to their medication, so that they can intervene when needed.”

Surescripts’ Medication Management for Adherence solution provides closed-loop feedback and collaboration between care providers and payers, and is optimized in their EHR workflow for the physician to use during the patient visit. The solution intelligently manages adherence messages by discarding expired content or messages that have been resolved, so care providers see only relevant content that requires their attention.

“Our providers are always looking for ways to improve patient care by having better information available when they need it,” said Neil Simon, chief operating officer of Aprima. “With Surescripts’ Medication Management for Adherence and Aprima’s integration, we are able to provide that information without any additional effort on the provider’s part, and we are proud to be leading the industry in this effort.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) calls medication non-adherence a national epidemic, costing the nation’s healthcare system $300 billion annually[1]. Fifty percent of patients never take their medication as prescribed,[2] which can negatively impact health outcomes and increase healthcare costs.

“Medication adherence is vital to helping providers improve patient care, especially those with chronic conditions. The direct integration of Surescripts’ Medication Management within the MedConnect product suite ensures providers can easily access this information,” explained Jimmy Chapman, President and CEO of MedConnect. “Our company is honored to be among the early adopters to connect with Surescripts to integrate this valuable service, and physician feedback has already been overwhelmingly positive.”

MedConnect Completes Surescripts’ EPCS Certification

Montgomery, AL – MedConnect EHR v2.3 has successfully completed certification requirements that will allow all eligible providers to electronically prescribe and transmit controlled substance medications through the Surescripts’ network.  Electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS) is the latest addition to MedConnect’s constantly evolving product suite.

EPCS will provide MedConnect physicians with a safe and secure network to prescribe and transmit controlled substances to supported pharmacies around the country, significantly increasing workflow efficiency and improving patient safety.  In addition, EPCS helps improve drug adherence and helps combat the growing opioid epidemic.  Opioid addiction, drug diversion and overdose deaths are among the primary forces driving the push toward controlled substance e-prescribing. Electronically prescribing controlled substances ensures authentic prescriptions, reduces doctor shopping, and identifies prescriber patterns.

“EPCS is essential for helping providers improve patient safety, by ensuring prescribed controlled substances are secure from the point of prescribing all the way to the pharmacy.  This will have a major impact on reducing and eliminating fraudulent activity associated with prescribing controlled medications,” said Jimmy Chapman, President and CEO of MedConnect.

Providers will be contacted with on-boarding instructions in the coming weeks.

MedConnect and Baptist Health Announce Patient Bridge Integration

Montgomery, AL – MedConnect, Inc. and Baptist Health are pleased to announce the integration of MedConnect’s Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) software solution with Patient Bridge. The collaboration will further the Healthcare Information Exchange system of Baptist Health and Alabama’s healthcare community.

The integration is the first of its kind in Central Alabama. Independent physicians using MedConnect’s EHR v2.3, Baptist Health doctors and patients, and other providers and health systems using Patient Bridge will be able to safely and efficiently send, request, and view healthcare data from one another.

“MedConnect is very excited to offer this integration to our providers.  We have a large number of providers in the community that utilize our EHR solution and are part of the Baptist Health system.  The ability for providers to exchange patient information is crucial to giving the most effective and efficient patient care in the future.” said Jimmy Chapman, President/CEO of MedConnect.

Dr. Donovan Kendrick played a key role in this new integration.  Dr. Kendrick is currently the Chief Medical Officer for Baptist Health. His office has used the MedConnect EHR solution since 2006.  “Patient Bridge significantly improves physicians’ ability to provide better care for our patients. Having access to a patient’s latest labs, diagnostic studies, medications, diagnoses and latest treatment significantly improves patient care by integrating their care among all their physicians. It also allows their primary physician immediate access to care provided by specialists so that their care can be better coordinated to ensure the best possible outcome.” said Dr. Kendrick.

The health care industry has identified the need to make healthcare records more accessible between different providers. The Health Information Exchange (HIE) systems are being created to gather health records that can be securely transferred.

“The goal of HIE is to facilitate access to, and retrieval of, clinical data to provide safe, timely, efficient, effective, equitable and patient-centered care,” according to the Healthcare information and Management Systems Society’s (HIMSS) website.  By integrating healthcare information, providers will be able to save time and money by avoiding re-admissions and duplicates, avoid fax machines and paperwork, improve diagnoses accuracy, avoid dangerous medication errors, and improve the overall public health. Integrating will allow professionals to examine the data to make better decisions on an individual patient level, as well as, decisions for the general population.

“As the industry moves towards more centralized patient health records in support of Patient Management, sharing information between health systems must be a priority.” said Jimmy Chapman, President/CEO of MedConnect.
